What Kind of Parent Are You?

By | accomplish, assistance, behavior, family

I believe all of us with children want the very best for them. We nurture them. We want them to grow big and strong. We want to give them things that maybe we didn’t have as children. Perhaps we grew up with lots of advantages and want our children to have as much or more than we had growing up. We also want our children to have terrific experiences – to travel, play sports, have friends and plenty of toys. Is all this providing for our children backfiring on us? Are we giving our children so much that we…

Happy Spring

I’m so happy that Spring is here. I think it’s my favorite season followed closely by summer. I love watching the plants as they start this new season. The trees begin to have this haze around them, letting you know that something (leaves, flowers) is waking up inside their branches. On my morning walks, I’m noticing all the small new things. Grass is greener, tiny leaves are starting to appear on the bushes and azaleas are painting the landscapes with the beautiful pink, white, and rose colored blossoms. I even saw a baby fox the other morning! You may have…

What does this word mean to you? For me, it is more than a place. It is a feeling of belonging. A feeling that I am safe and at peace inside this place.   I wrote last week about taking small steps toward your stated goal. But, why take small steps? Why not just dive in and really make an impact? The reason is simply if you want to make lasting change, to create a new habit, the best way to do so is by being gentle with yourself and implementing the change over time. Taking small steps allows your body and mind to get used to a shift in the pattern. Your inner voice might talk to you and say something like ‘this isn’t so bad, next time let’s do a little…

By | assistance, change, Organizing Strategies, Planning, prioritizing, projects, recycling, Time Management

Do you have an area in your home that never seems to get organized. Things are generally out of place. You don’t know where to begin to make it better so you don’t. The problem area either remains that way, gets worse, or perhaps a friend offers you a suggestion and one day you tackle it. Well, this is something I hear often from clients. They feel they should be able to get organized on their own – by themselves. They are embarrassed that they need to have a certified professional organizer come into their home to help them.  They ask…

Maintenance

By | assistance, Garden, maintenance

Earlier in May I was honored to have my garden included in the Atlanta Botanical Garden Tour of Gardens. There were 11 gardens on the tour and those who bought tickets could visit the gardens over the course of two days. As you might imagine I worked really hard (as did our landscape designer – Marcia Weber and her crew) to make our garden the best it could be for the tour. The weather worked against us as it was unseasonably hot in April which forced many plants to bloom earlier than usual. While I admit the roses were not…
